Any risk in banking points?

There's no risk! Unless you suddenly feel the urge for a last minute trip before the end of your current use year (after you banked) and then you'd have to borrow.

No risk except that once banked, they are stuck in the next UY. Honestly, once I know I need those points for the next UY, I'll bank them so I have them available when it's time to book the trip. We don't do last minute trips and have our next 2-3 trips planned.

I made the mistake of banking early one year, and ended up losing some trapped points when our plans changed. Now I wait until September in case something changes.

I found this thread on banking points so I thought I would piggyback and ask another banking question.

We have some points left over from 2026. Our use year is February so our banking deadline is September 30. I haven’t decided if we are going to use them for a last minute trip so I am waiting until September to bank them.

In the meantime, I am going to book our April 2027 trip at the 11 month window. If I end up deciding to bank the rest of this year’s points in September, will the system automatically know to use those banked points first for the April 2027 trip? Or will I have to do something to make sure the bank points are used first?

If you need those points to book the room, you need to bank them first. If you don't need them and bank them later, you should be able to reallocate the banked into the reservation.

The system will use banked/borrowed points, then use the current points. If you are worried about "What ifs", you could only bank the number of points that you need to book the 2027 trip and then bank the rest later before your banking deadline.

Oh! This is good to know. So I would need to bank before Sept (Feb UY deadline) because I need those points for the 2027 reservation at 11 months.
