Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopening
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened today! I rope dropped MK got to the parking lot at 8am and was waiting at the Adventureland entrance by 8:20.
It was crazy busy but I “only” waited 45 minutes from opening at 9am to being off the ride at 9:45am. Definitely recommend if you want to rope drop it to use the Liberty Square entrance or if you have early entry to wait over by the end of Fantasyland (however far they will let you go).
My quick review: The ride is significantly smoother and quieter. Some people say it feels slower but I didn't think it was any slower, speed wise it felt the same. However, the smoothness takes away some of the charm of the ride imho. Part of the character of the ride, being a rickety old train was that it should be a little rough. It was never Space Mountain or Matterhorn rough, it was just not as smooth as modern coasters, but now it is. Still a lot to love about the ride though!
The new scenes on the lift hills are an improvement over the old ones, but I like the dynamite scene at Disneyland better. Thats not to say these ones are bad, but they're just not my favorite.
Have you rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad since its refurbishment? What did you think?
Here is a quick POV of the ride if anyone is interested!

Scenes were way better than I remember. But ride did seem slower and less exciting than I remember.

I bet the ride will get rickety after some years of wear and tear. The ride will age well 😎

Interesting - I watched a video comparing the 2 side by side and the length of the ride was almost identical, actually the video of the ride in 2026 finished before the video of the ride in 2025 meaning it was faster by a little bit and it wasn't down to lift hills being faster.
I can understand though how it might feel slower from the smoothness, but the rumors being spread before re-opening that lowering the ride height requirement was because they were making the ride significantly slower does not appear to be true.
