We bought direct for that reason, even at the much higher price. We wanted the flexibility with the points to stay at VDH or use the points at WDW, Aulani or the beach resorts. We also have Boardwalk points with the same use year, so they can be combined together if needed (Aulani).
I also am happy with my purchase of the Field Guide and have made good use of their online spreadsheets and other resources. The availability predictor and tables in the publication are very helpful. They are great planning resources. I used them to plan my 2027 trips as well as my 2028 Aulani trip planning.
For what it's worth, I bought VDH direct in April a month or so after I bought resale. I didn't get official member financing but was able to get a 9.99% rate nonetheless.
Different appts with 2 different notaries. I was suprised when they added the notary at closing. Wasn’t sure why they wouldn’t do it all at once. I think the whole process took about 5 days total.
This is good advice. We recently had to do this for our trust when we bought our recent direct contract. Disney has a virtual notary process you can use but it took a day to get it scheduled. Wish I had known beforehand as I could have had it notarized and completed at my work.

We did the exact same thing! 250 points resale at Boardwalk without ever staying there or doing a DVC tour. We decided to buy DVC after staying across the lake at Beach Club (and paying a large sum to do so!). We loved the location and felt like it was a better fit for us than Beach Club. First stay is in September.
Just bought 150 points direct at Disneyland Hotels. First trip scheduled in December. Looking forward to it!
Being able to donate trips to charity was also something I thought about as well. Will keep that in mind!
