Who purchases the annual travel insurance through DVC? Who purchases other travel insurance? Who does not purchase travel insurance? It's so confusing to me. Do you buy an annual plan outside of DVC and how does that work when using points since you are not paying actual money for vacation stays. I would love to hear all the different ideas, pros and cons. Thanks in advance. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Thanks for your post. I didnโ€™t know that we could get travel insurance through DVC. Before we were DVC and therefore booked direct through Disney, we got the insurance through them. Since becoming DVC, we only got insurance through the airline for our flights. Looking forward to other responses.

I use the Chase Sapphire Reserve to book flights - which automatically comes with travel insurance. Not sure it will cover DVC stays, but will cover other aspects of travel including travel delays. I also use them for car rentals as they provide primary insurance coverage (instead of secondary), so you don't need to show the claims to your insurance company.

We did use DVC travel insurance years ago.

Now we only purchase it outside of DVC only when cruising or leaving the country.

For people who travels multiple times a year (DVC/non DVC), you can purchase a yearly policy for all your trips. I have not done this but read there is one. When we went to Italy on our own, I purchased mainly for medical reasons. Did not know that was an option until I called to ask some questions (don't remember if it was Alliance or Travelguard at the moment).

I have an annual travel insurance policy for this year to cover some non disney travel (cruises, etc). This covers the non point expenses, so I could use it for the maintenace fees for points that are lost based on their website.

I did have a late cancellation years ago from a medical issue, and members services offered grace and we were able to avoid points going to holding.

I feel like I am better off losing my points once in 20+ years because of a family emergency than having the cost of insurance. DVC is different from a big once in a lifetime cruise or European grand tour vacation because it repeats each year. much like missing out on space mountain this trip,,, no problem, I'm coming back soon.
