Howdy from the Great Plains
SupporterHowdy y’all! My wife and I are seriously looking into purchasing a resale DVC contract – around 100 points – and we could use some advice from those who’ve been through it.
Our plan is to take a couple of long weekend trips each year, arriving Thursday evening and departing Sunday evening, which we figured is the perfect way to get our Disney fix. As a family, Disney is everything to us – we’ve visited Disneyland and Walt Disney World several times over the years, and last Christmas we were even lucky enough to experience Disneyland Paris. Most recently, my wife and I did a quick weekend trip together and completely fell in love with that style of visiting.
Right now our biggest challenge is narrowing down a home resort.
We’re drawn to Boardwalk because we’re huge Epcot fans, and Grand Floridian and Polynesian are also on our radar. On the other hand, Old Key West and Saratoga Springs are tempting for the better price per point on the resale market.
Until I discovered the resale market, I never thought owning DVC was actually within reach. Excited to finally be here and looking forward to any guidance you all can offer!

One thing you will definitely want to consider is the expiration date of each resort. Some expire as soon as 2042 so you will want to think about how long you might want to keep taking Disney trips.
Of course a shorter expiration isn't necessarily bad either. We just purchased a 2042 resort a couple years ago (Boulder Ridge) and really really happy with it. But we also recently purchased some direct points that will be available much longer, if we want to keep going to WDW after 2042.

Have you thought of your preferred use year? For me, I have some June use year contract, so I need to avoid may and April trips.
One of the mistakes that I made was not anticipating wanting to get more points, and I ended up with three 50 point contracts hahaha. I could have saved myself some $, avoiding fees etc., if I just got a 150 point contract.

Yeah we like the concept of Sarasota or OKW lower price per point. Our only concern is being in the 7 month window. I'm not sure we'd always want to stay in those resorts. We plan on traveling possibly in the Jan-March and September timeframe usually

Yeah...I bought 50 points at BRV, thinking we'd bank/borrow and just go every couple years. But we realized quickly that wouldn't be enough so we bought another 150 pointer.
