Walking at 7 months
I’ve never ‘walked’ a reservation. I have 2 back to back 5 night reservations in a deluxe studio for OKW but want to stay at other resorts this year.
Do I modify my OKW reservation and move it earlier and then ‘walk’ it in? What are the chances of other studios resorts at the 7 month window?
Am I better off doing something different?
Appreciate any help in advance. Thank you from the UK.
Walking works best if you have the extra points to do it w/o cancelling your primary reservation. I don't recommend walking a reservation at the 7 month mark unless you have the extra points to do so, because someone with home resort advantage could just swoop in and book the room out from under you - and if you modified your OKW reservation, you now have potentially lost your reservation entirely.
Your best bet would be to see whats available the night before the 7 month mark and then in the morning at 8am, logon and try to modify your OKW reservation and try to change to the resort you want.

Walking can be stressful and it is not guaranteed. I feel strongly that getting on the waitlist 7 months is also a great option. I have been successful at California Grand twice, Polynesian Tower, Copper Creek, and just recently the Boardwalk view at the Boardwalk.

I tried walking once and couldn’t get it to work because the walkers were grabbing rooms faster than I could. However, I was actually able to get the reservation I wanted by just waiting a couple days when the walkers had walked past the dates and rooms we wanted and they became available again. Also, we’ve found that stalking the website comes through faster than waitlisting.
Thank you for your responses. We are always happy staying at OKW, which is our home resort, and have been lucky enough to stay at AKL, SS and CC (our other home resort but only once).
I agree in the comments made that A it’s stressful and B home resort priority could scupper our plans. We would love to stay at a monorail resort for some of the trip this year but have never been lucky enough to snag one at 7 months out. Is that because we are trying to stay for 5 nights?
Do waitlists come through for 5 nights in early/mid December for people?
Thank you for your help.

Thank you. Hopefully, one day, we will stay at BWV!

Early Dec is one of the most competitive times, but it is possible to find availability if you stalk the website. Waitlists are not impossible either.
Would you consider doing a split stay and do 1-2 nights at a Monorail resort and the rest at OKW? That might be more likely.

Good luck DisneyDunk.
I have never walked and I hope this is not the future of DVC :(.
I tried to reserve early December at OKW as soon as my 11 month window opened up on-line and could not get HH. I am booked but waitlisted HH. Unless a member cancels, I am doubting I will even get it at the 7 month window (and I am not waitlisting another resort). As soon as I booked, I saw listings for rent.
There is nothing available at any resorts - I keep checking. I might see a night here and there - just out of curiosity.
I need to make two reservations soon at my other home resort and starting to get worried.

Early December will always be tough imho. It has the highest demand for DVC members and studios (and as a result 2-bedrooms) will always be the first to go because of the low point cost.
DVC does re-evaluate the point "seasons" every once in awhile, last time they did this, they increased the point cost for Oct-Nov to the 3rd most expensive due to its popularity making it one of the more expensive times to go while early December remains the 3rd least expensive. If they move December into a more expensive category, it might decrease demand for this time - but they would need to decrease points somewhere else to increase points in December.

We are coming from the UK 12-22 Dec so have 2 x 5 night stays at OKW as I couldn’t get in CC, I have waitlisted CC. We would definitely do 3 or 4 nights at a monorail resort and then the remainder at OKW or somewhere else. The dream stay is 4-5 at monorail and remainder at AKL Kidani with a savannah view. But I think we need a serious amounts of faith, trust and pixie dust for that to happen!
Appreciate your responses Ryan, thank you.

I hope your HH wait list comes through. We added on at OKW after staying in a 1 bed. We absolutely love the vibe at OKW.
I’m not a walking fan and won’t be doing it this year after this fantastic forums help!

Yes. Very busy/popular. This is my third or fourth trip this time of year (owned since 2000). I will go back to my usual October (sometimes early November). It will be a few years before I try for early December again. I miss the concerts also.
