How to stay cool in August-Tips and Tricks

I just ordered up a couple Camelback collapsible water bottles with a Prime Day discount for our July trip. They look like they can roll up and fit in a pocket. Also, Costco has the Liquid IV packets on sale this month ($20.99 for a 30 pack).

A widebrimmed straw hat makes a big difference, imo. Shades your face, ears and neck. The new hat shop in MK (used to be Prairie Outpost candy store) has very nice ones that are SPF rated. No worries about applying sunscreen evenly or thoroughly enough, especially to ears. You can add some cool feathers and other accessories if yours has a hatband.

Something to be watchful for on lower legs of small ones or elders is “Disney rash”, commonly called heat rash. I had that pretty bad once and was told that it’s smarter to wear long pants and sneakers with ankle or crew socks. Legs won’t feel as cool as when wearing sandals and shorts, but keeping skin covered is essential if susceptible to prevent that horridly itchy red rash.

There are a few things I do/use in order to survive WDW summer heat:

1. bring a UV umbrella. Amazon sells a travel UV umbrella by G4Free that comfortably fits 2 adults under it.

2. if possible, bring 1 USB-rechargeable fan per person.

3. Use #1 and #2 in combination together. It will make it feel a few degrees cooler.

4. Skip the cooling towels. It's so humid that, honestly, they won't work very well.

5. Drink regularly. Before you're thirsty. If you're prone to electrolyte-deficient muscle cramps when it's super hot, alternate water with some sort of electrolyte drink. Bring these with you in drink packets in the brand of your choice.

6. Get free ice water at quick service locations.

7. Bring a insulated metal water bottle for each person.

8. wear a wide-brimmed hat.

9. don't be in the parks all day from open to close. Get to parks early in the morning, left after lunch. REST in your room in the air conditioning. Expect to take 2-3 showers/day because of how much you'll sweat.

10. bring some sort of anti-chafing stick like Body Glide. Put it on your feet in the spots that are prone to blisters. Use it in any other areas that are prone to chafing and rubbing. You really have no idea how much you will sweat if you're not used to FL in the summer. Like, the first time we went in the summer, I walked around the entire time with a huge sweat stripe down my back to my butt, where it looked like I'd pee'd my pants the entire time. AND I left sweaty butt prints on every seat I sat on. Beware of swamp butt.

11. Dress for the weather. This will probably mean loose-fitting breathable fabrics. Stuff you'd probably wear to the gym.

12. Expect it to rain in the afternoon. If you're wearing sneakers and get caught out in the rain, your shoes could get drenched. Pack a backup pair of shoes in your luggage. I don't bother with sneakers at WDW. Instead, I just wear hiking Teva sandals and put Body Glide all over my feet (even in between my toes)) and it works out fine when it's a monsoon-level downpour.

13. Bring blister band aids & mole skin with you. (plus scissors to cut the mole skin) if you get blisters. If your feet get sweaty and you're wearing sneakers, consider bringing a 2nd pair of socks w/you in your park bag and change your socks part way through the day.
