Hey all! Thought I would give a little discussion and backstory to our new direct DVC purchase. We have 2 resale contracts, our first is CCV at 200pts and second is BWV at 150pts. 2 contracts to give us access to an Epcot resort and a Magic Kingdom Resort. We thought “hey this is great we have access to the OG 14 resorts!” Then them FOMO started to hit as we traveled— oh we cant stay at Riviera and oh look at the new Lakeshore Lodge- looks incredible! We then knew we EVENTUALLY wanted to add a direct contract, for nothing other than having acess to stay whenever we please. We were dead set on Lakeshore….
Then we started to ponder…what will the price per point be? What if they raise the minimum number of points to be a direct member? What if the point charts are so outrageous that say 150pts gives us limited days?
All thoughts we put on the backburner. THEN the news of Riviera comes out as “95% sold out.” Could this be our last opportunity to get a contract at a resort we truly like (no hate to the poly) and with a minimum of 150? Would we regret not taking this opportunity?
So here we are on the phone with our rep, pricing out a Riviera contract— hoping to get 150pts. Then as we cruched the numbers and my now Disney loving (wont admit to this title) husband said, lets just buy in bulk and get 200. Sir are you ok? We are now proud owners of Riviera direct and can officially say we are hybrid owners.
Did we make a good choice— in hedging against what could be with Lakeshore? Time will tell… but what I do know is, we will make the memories that will last a lifetime with our family and in 30 years we will say “what a ride!”

Congrats!!
For what it's worth, I think you made the right choice. Personally I don't like how with Lakeshore Lodge you aren't buying deeded real estate and Disney can raise the number of points in a unit over time. I also do think in the long term Riviera will be more difficult to book than LSL simply because of how large of a resort LSL is so home resort priority is more valuable if planning to stay at Riviera.

I think you made a fantastic choice. We own BLT and our first add-on (in 2024) after 15 1/2 years of ownership was RIV. We fell in love with it.
Also, you're not going to be able to buy direct for less than now. I'm sure LL will initially price out higher. And who knows about dues...
I'm intrigued by LL, but we love the flexibility of walking out the resort and being able to go-see-do. BLT is great for that (Poly and VGF and BWV and BC are too), but WL already feels a bit isolated (even though we love the vibe). I do think LL will improve that whole corner of Bay Lake (hopefully allowing guests to walk between LL, FW and WL) but you already own at CCV!
FWIW, Riviera is the resort that stole the heart of my practical husband. He loves how easy it is to walk down and get coffee in the morning, how easy the skyliner is to use, etc. He also loves BLT and VGF too. He loves the ambience at WL, but never wants to stay there because he isn't a fan of the boats 😂
