OTU points & modifying existing reservation

We have a stay booked at our home resort using the rest of our year's points and 28 borrowed points. At 7 months we are hoping to modify to another resort but will need more points. My plan to to purchase 24 OTU points before the booking date and cancel that stay to have the 24 points ready to go at 7 months @ 8am EST.
When I modify my existing reservation to a new one and need more points will the system automatically pull the 24 OTU points first that are available before asking me to borrow more, if needed?
First time trying this out! Thanks for any advice!

SupporterHello! I believe the cancel to book early does work; however, there are a few problems with that strategy. My understandingis that you can only get 20 OTU points per UY and need to be used before the end of that UY.

It is 24 points. I have always called and then done everything by phone - bought the points and made the reservation. This way I was sure the points were pulled the way I wanted it to. Good Luck.
