Here is one hack I have heard about (have not used myself)….

Book a studio at OKW or SSR as a dummy reservation for a couple weeks before your WDW trip to get advanced LL and dining options and then once those things are booked modify the dummy reservation to avoid holding…..

I don't think this would really work, how do you avoid holding? If you modify a reservation that is less than 30 days out, the new reservation would utilize points in holding, so it would work I guess if you're staying at the resort further out, but if you cancel after that the points would remain in holding.

I don't think this works for lightning lanes but it definitely works for dining reservations as I've done it myself. You can make a 10 day stay in a cheap room like a SSR/OKW studio that way you get the 60 days + length of stay to book your dining and then once you have your dining booked you can cancel the room reservation. This is helpful when your actual length of stay is very short like let's say you're only at WDW for 1 night but want Victoria and Albert's.. chances are when you're 60 days out the reservation will be gone. But if you do the 60+ LOS and book it and then cancel that reservation you'll get the full 70 days.

Obviously this is easier to do when you have a lot of spare points to make a dummy reservation that you can cancel.

Oh yeah it makes sense for dining since you can book dining 60 days out and points don't go into holding until 30 days out. I was thinking more around Lightning Lanes which are booked 7 days out. It would work, but your points would go into holding.

Maybe if you have another trip planned in the near future it could work where you then use the holding points for a reservation less than 2 months out I guess?

Yeahhh I don't know if it's worth doing that but I suppose technically it'd be possible? I'm not sure though if they'd cancel your lightning lanes, probably not since it's something that was already paid for but obviously they have the power to just like when if you cancel your DVC reservation for Moonlight Magic the system will cancel the tickets as well.

I had someone modify a reservation that would have gone to holding if canceled and it seemed to work. I personally have never tried it.

Friend: Hey, could you use these points? My kid’s team has an unexpected event and we can’t make it and they will just go into holding.

Me: Maybe, but have you tried modifying it?

Friend: Let me try…. Holy Smokes it worked!

Me: Just for fun, see if you can modify again to further in the year….

Friend: Holy smokes, that worked to!

Me: So… no free points now 🤣

You’d have to have a LOT of extra points to pull this off…. so I doubt it would happen enough to be worth the IT expense.

West coast comma club member hack. Owning at VDH makes your magic key more magical as it makes it super easy to get a park reservation any time you want....... Just book a room somewhat near the days you want to go (I think it can be a very large delta) and boom you have access to the on property magic key calendar. I've never not been able to get a park reservation when I wanted one. Even same day.
