Using DVC points as part of a snow-birding plan?

Is anyone doing this? Or plan to do so?

I'm talking like an extended stay each winter of 4 weeks or more?

My wife and I plan to do so starting in a few years. Would love to get some suggestions/observations/advice!

This sounds like an incredible plan! Take a look at this article of a family that has taken long-term WDW stays to another level...sounds like something I would do (if we could afford it) 😊

I once looked into this several years back and did the math on the points--we ended up moving to FL though, so that plan clearly went out the window lol.

Happy to call the BoardWalk, Bay Lake Tower, and Grand Floridian home!

About how many points did you end up calculate and for how many months if you don't mind me asking?

To be a snowbird from December to February at BWV, it was 3,117 points and then 13,469 points (not technically feasible with the 8,000-point ownership maximum) to do year-round at BWV and BLT. (The link has more of the nitty gritty.)

This was our retirement plan. We bought a large enough contract at SSR to stay the month of February in a Standard Studio.

The first year we started tentatively, staying 2 1/2 weeks in February.

We hated it.

To stay for an extended period, you need a 1BR, which takes about double the points.

Also it turned out we missed the snow.

Yeah, a studio would be tough for a long stay like that. As much as I try to conserve points, this kind of plan deserves a one bedroom villa!

No chance we will miss the snow!

But definitely wondering about our ability to stay in a studio for an extended stay 🤔

Seems like this would be a lot of fun!! If I'm right they do have a 30 day/night rule. Meaning that at 30 days you would have to vacate the property for 24 hours. You can still go to the parks but you would have to stay off of property for 1 night.

Ok late to this Party! We usually take 15 day or so trips to WDW in the winter when it is particularly gloomy here in the PNW. We also take 10 day trips to DLR to find the sun as well. We tend to go to WDW before Christmas and DLR after. We did spend the whole month of December at OKW back in the early 2000's. That was great! Planning on more DLR trips in the future as it is an easier flight.
