Fixing Lightning Lane
Let me start off by saying I don't think the current system is broken per se. Our family(coming from Chicagoland) now has annual passes, and we almost always budget the cost of Multi Pass for our trips. We've gotten good at it, and we feel like it is a good product that helps make the day a lot smoother with 2 toddlers.
That being said- I absolutely hate having to be tied to my phone all day. Once you scan into a ride you feel that twinge of "Should I be booking the next thing?" Last year, we splurged and did Premier Pass in MK, and while the price is ridiculous, it was an incredible experience. I didn't check my phone, and we could do whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted. It made for a very relaxed day, and was really enjoyable.
To that end, I've been trying to think of ways to provide that kind of experience/enjoyment for people who, like us, can't spend $400+ per person, regularly at MK. I wonder if Disney would ever come out with a tiered version of Premier Pass. We don't really care about the most popular rides(Tron), and far prefer prioritizing the family-oriented rides like Small World, Pooh, Buzz Lightyear, Aladdin, etc. If Disney offered a tiered Premier Pass, along the same tiers they have currently, perhaps it could be
Tier 2 only - $200/person
Tier 1+2 - $350/person
Full Pass - $400
I would be willing to pay a premium, at least once a year, for the enjoyment of being cut free from my phone and enjoying some spontaneity. That premium needs to be more reasonable, though.
What other ways do you think they could improve LL? How do we get it less phone based, and open up a bit more spontaneous/keeping people focused on the present moment?

Im surprised noone has opined on this yet!
I do like your idea of tiered premier. Another way to get off your phone could be to have the next ride selection done at a stand-alone kiosk, like how fast passes used to be distributed.
Or, how about we take away multipass from the tier 2 rides altogether, as its existence is one of the reasons the standby line is long in the first place.
Hello from Chicagoland also by the way! When do you all typically travel to Disney? I might try to make an early February or March trip to get out of the cold, but soon Iโll have to line up with school breaks, so am more thinking Thanksgiving week instead.
The only way I want it ''fixed'' is to junk it altogether LOL, I want free fast passes back:) my boycott of Lightening Lane contunues, havent bought one, and dont plan on it ( if I wasnt local would I have a different view? Maybe but I've only been local since July 2024 and I didnt buy any when I travelled from Boston, either).

The kiosk idea is really interesting to me... Something similar to the old fastpass but you have to pay in to use them, etc. I'm truly for anything that allows me to not be tied to my phone. I know Disney won't opt for something that makes them less money, but maybe there is a way for me to give them money stiil and not be so hectic during the experience/tech dependent.
Love Chicagoland representing :) Our favorite time to go is spring. Something like late March/early April, but we also have found ourselves wanting something quick in the fall to break up the year a bit. This year we did a later than usual trip due to health issues (first week of May) and we will go back in November. Seems like a nice combo for us, assuming it's a normal year!

I'd be really interested to hear @Umbrelladrink 's thoughts on this. Is there a legitimate way to make a less phone-dependent experience which robs from the present minded enjoyment of the moment, that doesn't infringe/jeopardize Disney's profit margins? Even my idea of a tiered premier pass is a two edged sword- while I think you'd capture a lot more guests who would never think to spend $400+, you'd also lose some who would pay the $400, and will settle for less. I'm not sure if there really is an answer, but I trust Jeff to have some insights here.

Free Fast Passes aren't coming back so I'm not going there so I will say that I actually liked the version where we made our LLs day of combined with the two hour rule. That allowed me to develop an effective evening strategy for the theme parks by booking my first LL for a little after 4:00pm (let's assume 8:00am park opening). Then I was able to book LLs at 10:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, and 4:00pm which meant I walked into a park in the late afternoon with five LLs (six if I did Single Pass as well) and I could then make more when I got into the park.
I liked that system and it worked well for me.
I also wouldn't mind seeing them bring something like this to WDW -https://disneyland.disney.go.com/guest-services/hotel-park-benefits/
I realize it is more complicated because there are so many more hotels and only two more parks but maybe give people the option of choosing early entry or a free LL.

I agree. We have never bought one and never will. The only time we used one is the "free" one they give you instead of early entry at DLR. Dont get me started on how much a rip off that is.
Our trips are long enough that we get multiple park days in each park. If the line is too long at one ride, we just move along.

Yeah , DL only giving you 1 free LL in place of extra hours is an insult:(
