Long Flight Club
I thought I'd start a form for owners who are a 5+ hour flight from Disney World since we tend to travel differently than locals.
West Coasters, UK folk, anyone else who has to spend an entire day traveling to get there.
Where are you from and what's your travel time?
We are in Oregon, a 6 hour flight to WDW if I'm able to get a nonstop flight, and 8ish hours if we have a layover. I typically spring for the nonstop flights on Alaska Air even though they are much higher priced. We try to get to WDW twice a year and tend to spend 7-8 days there at a time. Disneyland is closer for us at about 2 hours, but we only go there once a year because WDW has been our favorite. If we had a shorter flight to WDW I'm sure we'd be there much more frequently. Since two of our vacation days are traveling each direction, it really tears into our time off from work.

Wow that is dedication!...And here I was conplaining to my wife about our 3 hour flight to both WDW and DL. We live in Texas.
We're in AZ, so it's about a 6 hr drive to Disneyland or a ~4.5 hr direct flight to WDW. We own resale at Aulani, so that's a long flight from PHX to HNL.
When we've gone to WDW, it's for 7-10 days. By comparison, when we go to Disneyland, it's usually for 2-3 days in the parks.

Roughly 8 hours flight from the UK mostly arriving around 4pm so the only bonus is no waiting for room. Infact when your phone gets a signal and logs on to the US network, usually when listening to Buddy Dyer π, your email pops up with your room number.

I'm out of Vancouver. My choices are a layover for a 10-11 hour total flight time or drive 3 hours to Seattle then fly 6 hours.
Which is still better than every year as. a kid we would do a red eye flight followed immediately by a day at Hollywood Studios.
I've since learned HS is not the worst park, we were just really tired.
I'm hoping Vancouver brings back direct flights in a few years.

I've done a few redeye flights from the West Coast to Disney and we've decided to never again do that. I remember one year falling asleep in the quick service as I was trying to eat breakfast. Everyone was grumpy that day until we got our room and a nap. If you are the type of person that can sleep on the plane or are extra energetic, maybe those red eye flights work, but they are not for me. π΄

Same... We fly out of Sacramento, so its an all day event (1.5hr drive to SMF), & even worse if you aren't non-stop. I try to stop in Texas when I can, its a nice break right in the middle, i hate stopping in SF or LA, or on the other end, ATL, etc. (non-stop is only 5+ hrs, so if I want to get up early, I can get there in time for a dinner res, but i don't like to get up early to rope drop the airport)
I started to get a room off property for the 1st night, when we land at 9pm, but it basically affects your whole first day, so now I just eat that first night (usually at AKV, so at least i wake up with the Savanna/Animals)
I'm starting to notice its either American so I stop in Dallas, or Southwest so I stop in Austin... If we have to stop I want it to be worth it. :)

I am 15 mins from DL, but when going to WDW, I prefer the 4pm Delta departure out of LAX. It allows me to travel on day 0 (and work almost a full day) and then get up and going bright and early the next morning. The only downside is you have very limited food options that late. I often rent a car and stop at Waffle House.
Coming from Seattle area. Disneyland is my main hub usually going a couple of time a year to get my palm tree fix. I just went back to WDW last summer with two friends minus our children (1 is a DVC member) and then repeated the trip in January. I will say, I know that split stays can be controversial but between our two long trips I have stayed at 5 resorts. On top of that, with the perk of free entry into a water park on day of check in makes a split stay adventageous. Our flight from Seattle doesn't land until early evening/later afternoon. But we went to Blizzard Beach midway through our stay while our bags were being transferred from Old Key West to the Boardwalk. It was perfect for us.
I didn't know split stays are controversial!
That is the only way is long haul travels get to use check in day perks.
I love split stays!
I agree! I really enjoy the theming of the resorts, and probably why I prefer the DLH over the GC.
Not necessarily a long flight, but I donβt fly since I use a power wheelchair. Coming down from northern CT, we drive 6 1/2 hours to VA, then take the Auto Train, which is an overnight train, with our van. It leaves at 4 pm and arrives in Sanford at 9 am. Weβre in the bubble by 11 am with the unloading of cars and the drive from Sanford. We also do the reverse on the way back.
P.S. The regulations to take a power wheelchair with lithium batteries on a flight are a nightmare, not to mention that the airlines waive any responsibility for damage done to a very expensive mobility device.
Itβs kinda fun to do the impossible. β Walt Disney
Our home airport is SeaTac here in Seattle. it is close to the longest flight in the lower 48. 6 hours plus. We have 2 choices for non stop. Alaska and Delta. We have been flying Delta for years and have pretty good luck. Howerver 2 days of vacation is pretty wasted on having our buts in airplane seats.
We almost always stay for at least 14 days at WDW because of it.

Amen. Now redeye flights for anymore either. So you waste 2 days getting there. 1 day in the air and 1 day recovering. Not Optimal!~

I love split stays as well, i just havent been going long enough to feel satisfied only staying in one place. lol
Alrhough i used to do 3 resorts in 8-9 nights, now i really just try to stay at BWV for the bulk, but land at AKV for a night or 2, then after 5-6 at BWV, maybe a Themepark. view at BLT to finish it off. ;)

We're in Portland, OR, so that's about 5 hours or so to to both WDW and Aulani, 2 hours to Disneyland. Usually do WDW 1-2 times a year, DLR 2-3, Aulani currently every 2-3 years but want to go mroe frequently
