What’s the best strategy if you’ve banked / borrowed and you’re still short on points for the trip you’re planning?

I know Disney will sell you a few one time use points… Is that the best strategy? What if you need more than their program allows - can you rent the difference through a broker?

yes if you're that short just buy OTUP

after that... member transfers are something people do

you can rent a reservation (can't rent points) for the remaining nights

you can book cash through Disney World website, or by calling member services which has a separate bucket of rooms available on cash

you can also just buy another contract, which is what many choose to do

Add more points if you are consistently short. You can also find someone to transfer points to you or you can rent the remaining nights through rental or from Disney.

If one time use points won't cover it, then renting the rest and doing a split stay is probably the best option. If if you're flying in late on the first night, rooms at the all stars can cover the difference.

This Is the way hahaha

But seriously, if you constantly find yourself borrowing you will eventually run into the scenario where you've borrowed all of your next year's points to cover this year's trip and then you are stuck.

In a similar vain to what @jimmymc stated, if a split stay is not something that interests you, you could rent the entire trip from another DVC owner and then intern rent your points to someone else to defer the cost of the rental. You will lose some money in taxes and fees to the rental broker so it's not a 1 for 1 swap but might be worth the couple bucks if you want one continuous stay.

OR just pay cash/rent for this trip and leave your points there for next year :)

Last year we stayed at week at Port Orleans during the Disney+ sale (which had been repeated this year as well) after we ran out of points. Can’t beat $168/night for something that sleeps 5 and not far off from a DVC studio.

The DVC cabins were on sale earlier for $300/night with is cheaper than owning there resale or no as it’s barely more than dues at that price.

We had a week booked but talked ourselves into upgrading that stay into more DVC points instead haha
