My favorite DVC lottery story happened in May 2022. We had a waitlist for three nights in a studio at the Grand Californian for October 2022. We were on a Disney Cruise on the Magic in May of that year enjoying a port call in Grand Cayman. While at a beach bar I was checking my email because the place had WIFI. In my inbox was the email from DVC - "We Can't Wait to Welcome You Home," our waitlist had come through.

Being able to use DVC points and book flights on points makes it much easier to justify the long weekend trips. We get a new credit card each month. For a single buyer, this would be a HUGE purchase. When you break it down for Disney, its similar to buying back 6-8 medium contracts, which is not that big of deal for them. It is interesting to think how their budget works as inventory is revenue generating. If they buy back 1500 points, and they are able to turn them "quickly", it may give them more funds to purchase more contracts.

We owned at CCV when we took our first trip to Aulani for our oldest's graduation, we had a OV 1BR. It was a fantastic room. We put my parents up in a IGV 1BR. I personally thought for a first trip the OV was fantastic but the rooms themselves were terrific and I would not have had any issue with staying in a IGV either. We had planned on a 2BR initially, but went in the lower cost period at the end of May and early June, so when we finally got to book at 7 months, all we could get were 1BR rooms and haven't stayed in another size yet. But with the four of us, there was more than enough room in the 1BR. Haven't stayed in a PGV yet, but that's coming next year.

I agree. I think it's a fair amount of effort. And SSR is a bit difficult to police because of the multiple entrances easily accessible on foot. But, I would not personally discount the people who do this sort of thing and their willingness to get something for free. If SSR does nothing to deter it, people will take advantage. I also don't think Disney has to do that much to deter it. Keycard readers and/or wristbands at the pools - IMO, that is almost becoming a must for every Disney resort. You could easily turn the bridge with the boats into a common checkpoint for either the boats or access to SSR to deter people wanting to use the SSR buses.

We like to get bread pudding to go and eat it on our balcony. Just make sure to mobile order early in the day if you want some. We love captain cooks, I also get the nachos. The main pool area is fun for everyone. The quiet pool is nice as well, especially when we do adults only. We like to hit the hot tub at the quiet pool. And the new tower has a really fun Moana water area for young kids depending on your family. One nice thing about staying in the original buildings are the room sizes are good sized. I was just playing with Google Maps in regard to this. If you park in the closest section of the Lime Garage, it is over a half mile walk to the Congress Park bus stop and almost a mile to the Rock Springs Pool and the Springs bus stop. I don't doubt there are some people doing this and who think they are gaming the system but that sure is an awful lot of effort. I suppose the next hack people will try will be parking over to the west side of the Springs and then walking along the water at the edge of the parking lots and entering SSR over by the golf course (you know, sneaking in the back way).

The pools at SSR are fine but they are not that great and they certainly are not a convenient walk from DS. I have to believe a lot of this stuff Disney is doing is specific to peak times (such as 4th of July weekend). It's one thing to check people at the DS bus stand but to start doing this all over the place will get onerous in terms of cast member staffing.

Aloha! In Sept., school is in session so the crowds won’t be too bad at that time. Weekends tend to be more crowded (locals) than weekdays and especially being by the adult pool, it’ll be wide open even at 7am. The other pool areas should be more crowded, since its a high demand area to swim unlike the adult pool, but nothing like spring break crowds. We’re currently here now (6:52am by the pool, got here at 5:55am) for the 4th of July weekend and the 4th is by far one of the most busiest days and everything was gone by 7:15am. But your date of arrival should not be as bad as the spring break crowd. 🤙🏽

The June 2026 DVC Resale Market ROFR report is now available, and the overall trend remains consistent with what we've seen throughout the year. Disney exercised Right of First Refusal on contracts at five resorts this month: Old Key West: 3 buybacks Grand Californian: 3 buybacks Grand Floridian: 2 buybacks Animal Kingdom: 1 buyback Disneyland Hotel: 1 buyback The most interesting buyback wasn't necessarily the number—it was the Disneyland Hotel contract itself. Disney purchased back a 1,500-point Disneyland Hotel contract that sold for $105 per point, or roughly $157,500. While it's unusual to see Disney exercise ROFR on an actively selling resort, this one makes a lot of sense. A contract that size can easily be returned to direct inventory and resold at current direct pricing, making it a very attractive acquisition. Looking at the broader market, ROFR activity continues to remain relatively low. Year-to-date through June 2026: 63 contracts bought back 1,652 contracts sold 3.8% buyback rate 96.2% waiver rate The overall buyback rate is also 5.1 percentage points lower than this point in 2025, reinforcing the trend that ROFR has become less of an obstacle for most resale buyers. Grand Floridian (14.8%) and Old Key West (10.4%) continue to be the primary resorts to watch, while most other resorts have experienced very little buyback activity this year. Yes, my son and I used to cruise on Royal Caribbean; however, I fell in love on the Treasure with my friends. The cast members are unbelievably awesome! It really changes the cruise experience. On Royal while it is cheaper, I find them asking for upgrades constantly...they are in your face. "Don't you want another drink", "don't you want the spa package"? I couldn't even enjoy the pool without being bothered. Will I sail Royal again? Yes... However, my son was skeptical about going to Alaska. "What will I do?", "how much fun will it be being so cold", all things he said. After losing my husband two years ago, my son & I have really bonded on our Disney trips. So...I thought I would see if sailing Disney would be the same. It was more than I could have imagined. I'm not sure how they knew who to sit at our table, but we had the best people dining with us. They had a mom with a 21 year old that my son bonded with a tad. Saying that, he loved the adults moreso. We laughed so much at dinner. After the cruise, I found a post on Instagram my son made...he had pictures from a night he walked around on the top deck at midnight and the words "I fell in love". It warmed this mom's heart. Apparently, he wanted to see the Northern Lights. And he is not an outdoorsy guy. Can you save money on another line? Yes. Can you see different ports? Yes. That said, this was the best memory, bonding experience my son & I could have. Disney cruise lines will always be my first choice going forward.

Thanks, Laura - we do have a 22-year-old son, and we were wondering if he would want to go/enjoy it. Can I ask if you considered/evaluated any of the other cruise lines?

No guarantee on pricing... Pricing has definitely been aggressive since the Fire Sale of 2023... I think they got burned on that one, and have been afraid of a repeat.. It actually amazes me because there are many cash rates this summer specifically that I could make a case that DVC is a waste of money if you compared the room rates through DVC to the cash rates in several instances... I mean, if you're a value person you cannot beat $99/night at the All Stars with Disney+...
