Saratoga vs Old Key West

We thought that we had taken our Disney trip for the year, but we’re talking about possibly adding in another one in the fall. Just looking at availability if we used DVC points, decent chance we would be staying at Saratoga Springs or Old Key West.

Other than figuring that we’d stay at one of them sometime and use that as an opportunity to eat at more places at Disney Springs, these resorts are a bit of a blindspot for us.

So tell me why we should choose one over the other. If it makes a difference, would probably try for a studio and consider a 1 bedroom. Would likely do MK and Epcot for parks.

Havent stayed at either but if I were to, it’d be OKW because of the size of the rooms. Besides that nothing else sticks out for either resort.

Saratoga, as we find it easier to get in at the 7-month point. We always do a 1-bedroom. Also, we like the option to walk to Disney Springs. With multiple bus stops, we find it easier to walk around the resort than at OKW. Hey, just our opinion. Can't go wrong with either one!

Both have great things. Paul will always choose OKW over SSR any day, but I love SSR. I find the distance to Disney Springs great, I love the charm of the buildings, fountains, rocks, etc. in the architecture. And the quick service has been making serious strides on their food lately.

Years ago I would have said OKW because it's a bigger room and costs fewer points. However, after they bifurcated the points at SSR between Standard and Preferred often times it is cheaper to stay at SSR and they knocked it out of the park with the room refurbishments, something OKW now really needs badly (hopefully they will just copy what they did at Vero Beach at OKW).

Plus the birding is better at SSR since it is along the river and has so many small ponds.

My heart and contract says OKW but there are positive and negative things about both. We have stayed at SSR most recently and like mentioned the room updates were great.

But on the 1 Bdrm side I kind of prefer OKW, even with the current sofa bed ( that I don't have to sleep on) the space just works better, and there are not 4 doors to the one bathroom like SSR.

SSR- closer to DS, updated rooms

OKW- larger rooms, a little more relaxed environment

I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Old Key West needs a bigger lounge/bar, the Gurgling Suitcase is just too small. It also needs an upgraded dining establishment at the back of the resort. A properly themed open air place similar to Geyser Point is what is needed IMWO.

Agreed, its more like the Gurgling briefcase.

It would he nice if the expanded on the turtle snack shack to be a full all day restaurant and added some freestyle machines at the millers rd an South point pools at least.

OKW vibe is the best!

Disney Springs proximity for SSR is awesome!

Both are great in their own ways...

Will pick OKW every time due to the vibe... I will say that the SSR rooms are kind of on the level of Riveria since the refurb (although only have stayed ina 1 BR), so if you think those rooms at the Riveria but don't relaly "need" the vibe (or skyliners) then SSR is a fairly decent resort, especailly for the price!

I enjoy both resorts very much. Each on their own have things going for them. SSR rooms are furnished nicely and the proximity to Disney Springs can't be beat. OKW does edge out SSR though. As people have said the vibe at OKW is much better. I think it is more energic but not crazy busy like the Poly or GrandFlo. In addition, the rooms are huge and if you are in 1 bedroom or more, you have a real patio.

IMO the size of the rooms and the balconies in the one and two bedrooms are OKW's biggest selling points. Vibe is nice but as a former boss of mine said about restaurants - you can't eat ambience.
